Arcrawls is a playful browser pet with thoughtful engineering behind it. The mascot reacts to activity and page context, offers focus and ghost modes, tracks progression, and can create daily reflections. Lite Mode works locally without a model or API key, while the optional Brain Upgrade adds on-device sentiment analysis and Gemini Nano summarization. Performance controls, GPU-composited movement, Chrome and Firefox builds, and explicit installation-size documentation show welcome attention to practical browser costs.
The main concern is privacy. Users need a precise description of host permissions, which page elements are read, what analytics are stored, retention periods, private-page exclusions, and model-download verification. A per-site allowlist, obvious pause control, data reset, and visible processing indicator would improve consent. Repository metadata should also display the PolyForm Noncommercial license consistently so it is not mistaken for a permissive license. Arcrawls is best for users who enjoy ambient personalization and accept a carefully controlled extension observing page context; privacy-sensitive users should review permissions and keep AI features opt-in.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful review and invaluable privacy feedback! We've just published a complete update addressing every concern: our PRIVACY.md now includes an explicit breakdown of host permissions, page elements read vs. strictly excluded (e.g., password inputs, credit cards, and forms are never read), hardcoded private-page/banking exclusions, local data retention policies, and Hugging Face model download verifications. We've also added a visible 100% on-device processing indicator, 1-click pause and data-reset controls, and updated our repository metadata to explicitly display the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license. Thanks again for helping us make Arcrawls safer and more transparent for everyone!
