RepoRanker ("we," "us") runs a public service at reporanker.com that helps developers discover and review open-source projects listed from GitHub. This policy describes how we handle personal information in connection with the site, authentication, and optional analytics.
What we collect
- Account and profile (via GitHub). When you sign in with GitHub, we receive identifiers, your public handle, and profile data GitHub makes available to our OAuth app, such as avatar, name, and email when permitted. We use this to attribute listings and reviews to your account and to show your username on the site.
- Content you submit. Repository metadata you submit, taglines, and review text you write are stored and displayed publicly, subject to our content policy.
- Newsletter. When you create an account, your email address is added to our product newsletter (delivered via Beehiiv). We send updates about RepoRanker — new features, top-ranked repositories, and community highlights. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
- Usage and performance. We may use server and application logs, hosting or analytics services (e.g. Vercel) and, when enabled, first-party or third-party product analytics to understand how the service is used and to fix issues. That can include device or browser data, IP-derived region, and page or event data.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies or local storage for sessions (e.g. when you sign in) and, where you have not opted out, for analytics. You can use browser settings to block or clear cookies. You may also see a notice on the site the first time we explain analytics. For more on your choices, see the GitHub privacy policy for OAuth data, and your browser or device help for local controls.
How we use information
We use the information above to provide and secure the service, show leaderboards and profiles, process payments where applicable, communicate with you about the product, comply with law, and improve RepoRanker.
We do not sell your personal information as a traditional "data broker" would. We may share data with service providers (hosting, email, payment, analytics) that process it on our instructions, or when required by law or to protect users.
Data retention
We keep account and content data as long as your account is active and as needed to operate the service and meet legal or dispute-handling needs. We may de-identify or aggregate data for analytics in line with this policy.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. If you are a GitHub user, you can disconnect our OAuth app in your GitHub settings. For other requests, contact us using the channel listed on the help page, including the subject "Privacy request" and enough detail to verify and fulfill your request.
Children
RepoRanker is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Check the changelog for notable product changes.
